Yoga as Therapy
Yoga Therapy uses the principles of Yoga in a therapeutic approach to empower and support individuals to manage health conditions. It is a holistic approach to managing health working simultaneously on the body, mind and spirit.
It can be applied to a large number of increasingly common health conditions such as back pain, diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure, digestion problems, depression, anxiety and stress.
A yoga therapy plan is developed based on individual need and may include asanas, pranayama, meditation, mantras, relaxation, detox programmes, dietary advice and lifestyle counselling.
Detoxification Program - Shankhaprakshalana
Hatha yoga uses a number of cleansing techniques to purify and detoxify the body, mind and spirit. One of these cleansing techniques is Shankhaprakshalana - shankha meaning "conch" because of its resemblance to the stomach and intestines and prakshalana meaning "cleaning.
Using a natural combination of salt, water and lemon in conjunction with yogic exercises, the complete internal intestinal system is flushed out, removing toxins from the whole of the body, resulting in a lighter, more flexible body and a clearer mind and state of consciousness.
Poorna Shankhaprakshalana is the full cleansing program and should only be practiced under expert guidance and requires strict dietary, physical and mental changes over a sustained period of time.
Laghoo Shankhaprakashalana is a shortened form of this cleansing technique and is recommended for those undertaking this cleansing for the first time. For both of these detoxification programs, guidance and support is provided throughout the process within your own home.
